The 27th edition of All Financial Institutions Football competition (AFIFC) will kick-off on October 2, the organizers-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced.
Disclosing this at the headquarters of NFF in Abuja on Thursday, CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Ugochukwu Okoroafor said the annual football fiesta which would feature no fewer than 24 teams was designed to create opportunity for business and social interaction among players, officials and staff of competing institutions.
Represented by the head of events management, Martins Ogwuda, the director said “CBN is committed to sponsoring and promoting sports in line with the banks corporate social responsibility as the overall winners of the competition will smile home with N2 million.
“The competition of this magnitude creates an opportunity for business and social interaction among players, officials and the staff of the competing institution. It will also serve as platform for promotion of unity harmony and peaceful co-existence among the key players in Nigeria’s financial system”
“It is an established fact that the game of soccer is a unifying force globally and as such, a source of national pride that is devoid of ethnic, religion and political coloration,” Mr. Okoroafor disclosed
Responding, NFF’s Director of competition, Dr Sanusi Mohammed reiterated the determination of the Federation to stand by any organization in its football activities.
