The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service of 18 corps members in Delta for violating NYSC bye-laws.
Mr Alao Olusegun, the Coordinator of NYSC in Delta, made the disclosure on Thursday at the passing out parade of the 2021 Batch B, Stream 1, corps members.
The event took place at the Cenotaph, Asaba.
Olusegun also said that 21 corps members, who absconded, would repeat the service year on remobilisation to another state.
He said that two corps member would receive the NYSC State Governing Board Chairman’s Award in recognition of their hard work, while 19 others got the state coordinator’s commendation letter.
He said that the corps members were exceptional in their host communities in the some areas including provision of free legal services to the less privileged, intensive campaign against HIV/AIDS scourge and COVID-19.
He praised the batch for an impressive performance.
“I commend the discharged corps members for making an impact in their host communities.
“While in the state, these batch of corps members were focused and devoted to the task of helping to develop the state through their efforts at their various places of primary assignments.
“Their activities in the areas of healthcare delivery, building entrepreneurship through skills acquisition and efforts at eliminating illiteracy as well as environmental beautification are commendable,” he said.
He enjoined the corps members to make use of the skills they acquired from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
The state Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa urged the corps members to play positive roles in the nation’s political process.
Okowa was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Ifeanyi Egwunyega.
He urged that the corps members should not allow themselves to be deceived by unpatriotic citizens.

He urged the corps members to be good ambassadors.
“Distinguished compatriots, always remember that you are now ambassadors of your families, NYSC and the nation.
“You should strive to be patriotic, honest, diligent and avoid peers that can lure you into social ills such as drug addiction, thuggery, internet fraud and abuse of social media.
“As the passing out falls within the time of high-level political activities that will lead to the 2023 General Elections, the nation expects you to play positive roles in the political process.
“Take the bull by the horn and participate fully in the political process with utmost patriotic zeal,” he said.
