The Katsina State Government says it will clear all outstanding liabilities it owed staff in the state civil service by December, while that of the Local Governments will be cleared by July, 2025.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Bello Kagara, disclosed the glad tidings at the 2025 budget breakdown, on Tuesday in Katsina.
Kagara recalled that Gov. Dikko Radda had presented a budget of N682.2 billion before the State House of Assembly, on Monday, for consideration and subsequent approval.
The budget, tagged: “Building Your Future II”, has Recurrent Expenditure of N157.9 billion, representing 23.15 per cent and Capital Expenditure, N524.2 billion, representing 76.85 per cent.
The Commissioner explained that the government has already captured payment of the outstanding liabilities it owed retirees in the budget.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also quoted Gov. Radda as saying this during the 2025 budget presentation: “We plan to clear all outstanding liabilities for the state government by December, 2024 and for local governments by July, 2025.
“The payments are not only an obligation owed to those who gave their lives to public service but a catalyst for our local economy.”
Kagara further said that the budget was higher than that of 2024 by N200.5 billion, representing an increase of 40 per cent.
On the 2024 budget performance, the commissioner said that government has achieved 73 per cent revenue generation during the period under review.
He attributed the achievement to innovative collection strategies that have transformed the state’s revenue landscape.
The strategies, he said, included opening of new revenue windows, implementing the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and maintaining zero tolerance for financial leakages. (NAN).
