As the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to dilly-dally over zoning of its Presidential ticket to the deserved region of Nigeria, aggrieved party faithful on Wednesday stormed the Abuja secretariat with placards.
Activities at the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata House, Wuse Zone 5 was disrupted as workers and visitors were prevented entry and exit by the protesters in their dozens.
The protesters made up of men and women of all ages were chanting solidarity songs and demanding the leadership of PDP to stop keeping Nigerians guessing by zoning the Presidential ticket of the party to the South without further delay.
Prompt News reports that many of the protesters were visible angry that PDP wants to destroy itself by trying to go against its own party Constitution which clearly approved the Principle of Rotation between the North and South.
Some of the placards read:
Respect Zoning to Keep Nigeria Togather; We Support Power Shift to South and Save Democracy Zone Presidency to South among others.
Meanwhile, Debo Ologunagba, PDP Spokesman, has said that the protests that rocked the party’s National Headquarters on Wednesday is not anything to worry about.
Ologunagba who spoke on Channels Television political programme Politics Today on Wednesday night argued that the protesters were exercising their rights, adding that it is within their right to voice out their grievances if they feel they have to.
According to him: “PDP is the only organic party in Nigeria today and we have various organs of the party which will deal with the protesters demands.
” We have a Zoning Committee which has done its job so other organs will soon take decision”.
On the agitations that have trailed the conduct of the Delegates Election held across the country recently especially in Anambra, Imo and many other states, the PDP chieftain said that the aggrieved party members will get justice as there are party organs to deal with such complaints.
Some of the PDP Organs are:
The 25-member Appeal Panel is chaired by the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
Membership of the Appeal Panel comprise the 19 members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and six members of the Board of Trustees (BoT).
There is also the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
