Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has revealed why he is visiting many countries across the world ahead of the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria.
He also said that the country’s teeming youths at home and diaspora he has met in his trips want a Nigeria that works for all from 2023.
Obi who spoke on Arise News breakfast programme ‘The Morning Show’ on Wednesday disclosed that his recent trips around the globe including Egypt and Morocco are purely business trips to headhunt for the best Nigerians who will drive his vision of new Nigeria if he is elected the next President of Nigeria in 2023.
“All my trips abroad including to Egypt and Morocco are purely business trips. I am travelling around meeting people who can help in the new project of turning Nigeria around, making our country a producing nation instead of consuming country”.
“It may interest you that I have not spent more than one day in each trip. For example, I travelled the United Kingdom on Sunday, had the business meeting on Monday and returned to Nigeria same day. Professor Pat Utomi who went with me will tell you the calibre of personalities we are meeting”.
Obi, a former Governor of Anambra state posited that it’s instructive to start early to assemble the best hands in every facets of Nigeria life who will help him drive the new vision of Nigeria that works for all as being demanded by the youths the nation.
On his recent visit to Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, the Labour Party flagbearer explained that he also went for business reasons, to parley with the governor on how the Port Harcourt Seaport can be put to better use to generate more fund for Nigeria than it’s currently doing.
On what is his stand on the social media attack on political opponents who do not support the Peter Obi Presidential project, he said he is the most abused of the candidates, adding that those who attack his opponents are infiltrators.
According to Obi: “I must sincerely say that those attacking people on social media are not my supporters. You know, we know all these things, opponents are the people planting these attacks and turn round to say it’s Peter Obi’s supporters, never. My supporters a very civil in their conducts online and offline”.
On the campaigns of calumny against his son, he said it was the height of the designs of the opposition and those whom his growing popularity across Nigeria is giving too much trouble.
Said he: “Let me even shock you, my son believe so much in Nigeria and has been asking him to do something when he gets the opportunity to make him and many other youths who believe in Nigeria to return home to help rebuild the country”.
Speaking further he said it’s because of the believe in Nigeria that his only daughter who is a UK citizen like his son, returned to Nigeria after graduating in UK to take up teaching in local school in Anambra state.
On his chances of winning the Presidential election in 2023, Obi said he has never been more optimistic than now because of his wide acceptance across Nigeria.
Said he: “I am offering to serve at this moment in time in the life of our dear country because I am a businessman who understands the art of growing the economy and running an efficient administration that will be the pride of all Nigerians”.
“I want to see the up North growing the food we need, Kaduna and Kano to processing hub for export and other parts of the country involved in one production or the other for local consumption and export. This is how countries develope”, Obi concluded.
