For the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 General Election, Mr. Peter Obi, the good fortunes following him seems not to be abating as he has been awarded the citizenship of the United States of America (USA), though in honorary capacity.
The latest international recognition for Obi was bestowed on him by Mayor Eric Johnson, The Mayor of Dallas in the State ofTexas, USA, according to the revelation made by the former Governor of Anambra State, himself, using his social media status.
Mayor Johnson who spoke on the significance of the award, stated that Obi, having been conferred with the Honorary Citizenship, would now uphold a place of high esteem in the minds of the people of Dallas City, stating: “Without a piece of doubt, with this conferment, you shall uphold a place of high esteem in the minds and hearts of the people of this great city (Dallas). Congratulations!”
Obi posted pictures on his verified Twitter handle @PeterObi to announce the rare privilege accorded him by Eric Johnson, The Mayor of Dallas, on Tuesday, alongside pictures of him receiving the award and a certificate to that effect.
He wrote: “Today in Dallas Texas United States, I met with the Mayor of Dallas and his team. I had the privilege of being conferred with the honorary citizenship of Dallas.”
Obi and his presidential running-mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed popularly called Obi-Datti have been enjoying a large political followership in Nigeria at the moment especially amongst the youths and urban dwellers because of their progressive messaging which seems to be resonating amongst Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines.
