Mr. Peter Obi’s ambition to become the next President of Nigeria has received a big boost as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it recognises Barrister Julius Abure as the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The Commission also revealed that Abure has since been handed the INEC Access Code in relation with official correspondence with the Commission ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
Barrister Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Voter Education Committee, made this clarification on Thursday in a popular Abuja-based FM Radio Station amidst media reports that there is faction in Labour Party.
According to him: ” INEC recognises Julius Abure as the National Chairman of Labour Party. He is the only person the Commission is dealing with and we have given him the Access Code of INEC. We are not aware of any faction in the Labour Party so this is the official position of the Commission”.
Prompt News Online reports that two people are laying claims to the leadership of Labour Party with one Calistus Uju Okafor who superintended over another convention of “Labour Party” recently in Abuja, also claiming to be chairman of the party.
Meanwhile, Obi whose campaign is gaining momentum by the day across the country is seen now as “New Face of Nigeria Politics”, just as the Nigerian youths have adopted Obi as their preferred Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential Election.
