Barely 24 hours after she resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), frontline female politician from Kano state, Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad, has declared support for the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of 2023 elections.
She had sequel to her resignation also quit her position as Director of the Civil Society directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council of the APC last week.
Recall that Naja’atu Muhammad, while announcing her resignation from APC last week, also said she would quit party politics.
But, she hinted that she would be supporting individual contestants especially those who have the overall interest of the country at heart.
Consequently, she has announced Atiku Abubakar of the PDP as her preferred candidate for the Presidency, Hajiya Aisha Binani of the APC for Adamawa governorship and ANPP’s Abba Kabir Yusuf for Kano governorship election.
In a letter addressed to APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Naja’atu states: “In line with article 9.5 (i) of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I am writing to you to intimate you of my resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC). I am by this letter also informing you of my resignation as the Director of the Civil Society directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council of the APC.
While justifying her decision to quit party politics but to support individual politicians, she stated:
“I am committed to supporting individuals that are truly interested in addressing the root causes of our challenges as a nation. To remain true to such commitments, one must be willing to take bold and decisive steps. Quitting party politics at this point in time is one of such steps.
