With the presidential election few weeks away, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday arrived Bauchi state capital amid tight security to lead the North East Presidential and Governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The aircraft conveying President Buhari touched down at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa airport, Bauchi at exactly 10: 22 am as the APC campaign train returns to the hustings for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.
While gridlock characterise virtually all of the arterial roads, a combined effort of the security agents battled hard to control the large vehicular and human traffic at the Tafawa Balewa venue for the campaign, just as the President was being received on arrival at the airport terminal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor of the state, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and his All Progressives Congress challenger in the Saturday, March 11 governorship election, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar.
Others on hand to receive the President were APC party Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Director General, Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, former chief of Defense Staff, Gen Abdulrahman Danbazzau, Senator Andy Ubah, Yobe state Governor, Maimalla Buni and his Kebbi and Borno state counterparts, Atiku Bagudu and Babagana Zulum respectively.
Airport formalities over, the President’s motorcade, led by Governor Mohammed thereafter proceeded to the Palace of the Emir, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, for a brief parley and thereafter moved to the Sir Tafawa Balewa stadium, venue for campaign currently ongoing in the state capital thronged by a tumultuous crowd of party fateful.
President Buhari who is billed to officially present the APC candidates to the people at the campaign, will thereafter depart for Lagos where he is expected to commission a number of projects during his two-day visit to the state.
