The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the 2022 appropriation bill of N188.4 billion for Gov. Aminu Tambuwal’s assent.
This development followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the plenary sitting of the assembly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Tambuwal presented the 2022 budget to the state House of Assembly on Nov. 15.
The budget tagged: “Budget of accomplishments and sustainable development”, is lower than the 2021 budget of N205.02 billion by N16.59 billion consisting both the Recurrent and Capital Expenditures approved by the assembly.
According to Tambuwal, the 2022 budget proposal consists of recurrent expenditure amounting to N75.87 billion representing 40.3 per cent, while the sum of N112.56 billion representing 59.7 per cent, remain capital expenditure of the total estimate.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the Committee, Malami Basakkwace (PDP- Sokoto South II), explained that the committee did not add or subtract from the figures presented by the governor.
“However, based on genuine request by sub-committees, the committee moved resources inwards to accommodate some important demands and interest of our people,” he said.
Basakkwace said the committee had recommended that all sources of funding identified in the budget should be maintained and their conditions adhered to.
“That the House Standing Committees should intensify their oversight responsibilities to Ministry Department and Agencies (MDAs).
“This is particularly the revenue generating agencies with a view of ensuring the state government is less dependent on oil revenue,” he added.
Alhaji Bello Ambarura, APC Leader of the Assembly, thereafter moved the motion for the 3rd reading of the Appropriation Bill and it was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Achida. (NAN)
