Barely two weeks to the start of the Second Edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Football Tournament slated for Abidjan, Cote d Ivoire, the Super Falcons will depart Nigeria for the competition on May 7. PromptNews can exclusively report that the team which started its close camping today in Abuja with 26 home- based players will travel to Abidjan after one week of training in Abuja. Falcons Head Coach, Thomas Dennerby will pick 21 players from the 26 currently in camp for the WAFU tournament which will start on May 8.Meanwhile, all the invited players have reported at the Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja on Sunday, 28th April as training sessions had commenced (Monday) today. Veteran midfielder Osarenoma Igbinovia and forward Chioma Wogu have also been called, as well as former captain Evelyn Nwabuoku. Goalkeepers Alaba Jonathan, Christy Ohiaeriaku and Chiamaka Nnadozie will contest for the number one position with Oluehi, who maintained her place among the sticks as the Falcons won a ninth African title in Ghana last year, and has kept the position ever since. Defender Maryam Ibrahim and midfielder Cynthia Aku, as well as former junior internationals Peace Efih, Ugochi Emenayo, Joy Jerry and Joy Bokiri will also get another look-in as Dennerby prepares to compile his final list for the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France.The WAFU Women’s Cup Tournament will take place in Abidjan from 8 – 18 May 2019, with the Super Falcons slated to play in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Mali.
