The leadership of the People’s Trust, PT, a newly registered mega political party, which, at the weekend in Abuja, announced the consummation of a tactical merger of major political platforms, stakeholders and associates within the bloc of the main opposition circle in the country, has rolled out plans of the new mega party to build a real democratic and ideologically driven mega platform towards the survival of the Nigeria’s democracy
Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Protem National Chairperson of National Excecutive Council,NEC and Dr Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, Chairperson of Board of Trustees, BOT of People’s Trust, PT jointly made this disclosure, while addressing the National Executive Council, NEC of the adopted mega party following their elections to lead the new mega formation of the Nigerian main opposition bloc, which fused into People’s Trust, PT; a national party registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in 2017
In a joint address to the party NEC attended by various stakeholders who fused into the mega party, the human rights icon, Olisa Agbakoba and the international medical expert, Tafawa Balewa decried the present crops of political class and ruling elites in the country for failing the cause of civil rule and democracy, which they and others, who paid the highest sacrifices, fought hard to enthrone.
To the duo, if the current Nigeria’s democratic experiment must survive or yield its natural dividends Nigerians must rally and own the new ideologically focused mega party to challenge their exploiters as People’s Trust is initiated as a real popular party to provide leadership for the peoples struggles in the mode of the ANC of south Africa
In the meantime, the duo who are Co Chairpersons of Nigeria’s biggest political movement; Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM; a major convergence for Fresh breed, emerging political leaders in the country, have accepted to steer the rescue agenda of the newly consummated mega party for Nigeria and that they are prepared to go all out to recruit and mobilise other credible political allies and aspirants across the length and breadth of the country to join forces with the party to end present penury, misery and hunger in the country

This is the whole logic our facilitation of alliances and coalition towards the 2019 elections”
“It also for the purposes of consolidating the mileage gained with the formation of the coalition that we are merging with liked minded political allies and stakeholders to create a credible mega platform for all democrats to engage the 2019 elections on the platform of the People’s Trust”
“Therefore, we as fresh breed democrats and progressives of the third force movement, wish to call on all well meaning Nigerian citizens, serious and credible Aspirants in the 2019 elections, untainted politicians, professionals, Youths and women for whom we have already secured 35% quota respectively within this fresh grassroot oriented mega party to immediately join and own the party with us at the national convention slated for August 2018” the leaders of the new mega party enjoined
In a related development, the new leadership of the mega Peoples Trust was charged by NEC to immediately engage and consult some leading Presidential aspirants and Political icons in the country and to urgently convene a national stakeholders summit on Nigeria’s democracy for the purpose of adopting a common presidential candidate and also to encourage more platforms and stakeholders to merge with the People’s Trust mega platform
Some the the political icons and presidential aspirants shortlisted for National Stakeholders consultations scheduled to commence next week by NEC include; Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen TY Danjuma, Chief Olu Falae, Dr Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Mr Donald Duke, Rt Hon Ghali Umar Naaba, Col Abubarkar Umar, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Mr Omoyele Sowore, Mr Ahmed Buhari, Dr Kingsley, Moghalu, Mr Fela Durotoye, Dr Sina Fagbenro Byron, Engr Buba Galadima, Veteran Olawale Okunniyi, Director General of NIM among others over adoption of a common presidential candidate for the 2019 elections
