ABUJA – Disturbed by the low Budgetary Allocation for the Health Sector by the Federal Government, stakeholders in the sector have called on the National Assembly to increase the budget.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja, the leadership of National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN) in conjunction with Partnership For Advocacy In Child And Family Health (PaCFaH)
appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly reverse the low Budgetary Allocation to the Health Sector.
At the Press Conference titled The 2018 Budget Proposal And The Health Sector: Consolidation or Consolation?, the National President of NACHPN, Comrade Akor Ikechukwu Jude said unless something is done on the low Budgetary Allocation, the health of Nigerians will be in Jeopardy.
“We found out that the 2018 Health budget as a proportion of total national budget is only 3.9 percent. This is the lowest share of national budget allocated to health sector in recent times” Akor claimed.
He stressed that ” it is important to note that the allocation to the health sector in the 2018 budget for our neighbors Ghana is 7.1 percent while Nigeria allocates 3.96 percent to the health sector, which indicates that we are trailing far behind Ghana”.
The Press Conference held at Bolton White Hotel, Abuja was attended by all the national officers of the body.
