With the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his rival, President Goodluck Jonathan has been told to be rest assured of victory while Oyo will return back to the PDP after the elections.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the South West zonal chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Abdullatif Akinshola better known as Tokyo said, “I swear by Allah that we shall defeat Buhari again in 2015. Was he not the same candidate we defeated in 2011? We will repeat his trouncing again in 2015. I promise you, Jonathan will defeat him again.”
Tokyo who said he has been a member of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) under Adisa Meredith Akinloye, “we were the foundation of the PDP. We are followers of the legendary Adedibu. We have remained where he left us and we will sustain his legitimacy.”
Speaking on the crisis in the Oyo state PDP, Tokyo promised, “I will do my possible best to help the party win in 2015 in Oyo state. Its true that we will continue to miss Adedibu but I assure you that Oyo state will be back in the PDP family in 2015.”
Asked how he will do it, he said, “People love me in my state. I have the largest membership in the NLC as the leader of the transport union in the entire South West.”
Answering a question on the 2014 gubernatorial election in Oyo state, Tokyo quipped, “we worked for Senator Teslim Folarin to win the primaries which was free and fair. I can also tell you that by the grace of God, that is our next governor. He’s the best candidate for the PDP in Oyo state. The people spoke with their votes at the primary and so shall they also speak in the larger election.”
Asked to assess the Ajimobi administration, he described it as “a disaster. People of Oyo state today are lamenting the maladministration. No one will vote for them in 2015 and that is why Senator Folarin will get the massive vote of the people.”
On his travails with different Oyo state government, Tokyo revealed, “I joined NURTW in 1979, got elected the state chairman in 2000. Rashidi Ladoja framed me up in 2003 and forcibly removed me. Adedibu fought and got me reinstated in 2008. Adebayo Akala also frame me up and removed me.
“I went to the Nigeria Industrial Court and later the Federal High Court on fundamental human rights basis. I won these cases for reinstatement. Ajimobi refused to obey court orders to return me. I petitioned the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to no avail.”
