By Gracious Akujobi As part of the build up ahead of the 2014 athletics season, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is organizing over distance events for athletes February on 14 and 15, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.
A release signed by the Secretary General of the AFN, Olumide Bamiduro, said all interested states and athletics clubs are to send their entries to the Federation on or before February 9, 2014 as no entry will be accepted at the venue of the events.
Bamiduro, also said that accommodation will be provided for participating athletes while there will be no meal and transport subsidy to any athletes and accompanying officials. There is also no prize money at stake.
The events athletes will compete in are: 150m male and female, 300 male and female
600 male and female, 1000 male and female, 300 hurdles male and female 4x100m male and female, 4x400m male and female Distance medley.
Meanwhile, AFN will on Monday February 3, 2014, meet with all States Athletics Associations, Military and Para-Military Athletics Clubs, and Private Athletics Club Owners in Abuja.
The meeting with the stakeholders is to enable better working relationships with stakeholders in athletics.
The Federation will also on February 4, unveil the newly appointed Performance Director of AFN, Eric Campbell and the technical committee members.
Members of the technical committee are: Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama – Chairman/Technical Director, Mr. Eric Campbell – Performance Director, Prof Olatunde Makanju – Head, Road and Mountain Race, Dr Ken Anugweje – Head, Medical/Doping and Falilat Ogunkoya – Athlete Relations.
Other are Yussuf Ali – Technical Information, Equipment & Statistics, Gabriel Okon – Coaches Relations, Henry Amike –Technical Officials Relations, Ado Maude – Scouting (Distance/High Altitude), Seigha Porbeni – Monitoring/Scouting (Onshore) and Mallam Lambu Umar- Secretary.
