By Gracious Akujobi In line with FIFA directive, the League Management Committee (LMC) has resolved to tailor the 2013/2014 football season in such a way that it will not overlap into the FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday, LMC Operating Officer, Salisu Abubakar explained the positive effects of the early kick-off of the 2013/2014 league.
Consequently, the LMC has embarked on series of campaign using the social media to sensitize stakeholders. It announced that registration of players will commence immediately after the end of the 2013 season on October 20 while it closes on January 2nd 2014.
Abubakar said, “It is going to help the clubs because over time the problem we have always had is that the league is always starting late and that is why our club sides are not doing well in the continent”
“This time around by the end of January when the continental cup competitions will start we would have played about 15 games in the league and that will toughen our teams to be able to now face the continental challenge very well”
“This is a directive from FIFA who say all domestic competitions must be completed before the world cup, precisely in May of 2014.
The 2013/2014 Glo Premier League season is billed to kick-off on November 22.
