No fewer than two persons have been killed as Police went after gunmen that have been terrorising Ugbokolo town in Benue state.
Prompt News gathered two of the gang members were shot dead on Thursday at the sprawling Ugbokolo Market patronised by people from Cross River, Enugu, Anambra and Imo states.
The ring leader, one Emma Udo, alias ‘Belief’ has been identified as one of those killed.
The gunmen who are believed to be cultists have killed several people in Ugbokolo town during the series of attacks they had carried out.
Our correspondent learnt that most residents of the town see the gang members as cultists while others say they are just robbers.
The proactive measures being taken by the police now may be sequel to the outrage in the media especially online platforms in the last few days.
“This is a welcome development and we commend the police for rising up to protect lives and property in our community.
These boys have killed many people in the community and we just hope and pray that police will go after others to that we can have our peace in Ugbokolo here,” a middle-aged man who pleaded annonimity told Prompt News on phone.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue State Command was not successful.
