An Area Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced two brothers Kingsley, 19, and Elisha Gyang, to one month imprisonment for stealing a water pump machine worth N80,000.
A panel of judges made up of Malam Sadqi Adam and Mr Hyacenth Dolnanan, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to conspiracy and theft.
The Gyang brothers begged the court for leniency.
The judges gave the convicts an option of N 10,000 fine.
The judges also ordered the brothers to pay compensation of N80, 000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police station on July 3, by Mr Moses Matthew.
He said that the Gyang brothers trespassed into the complainant’s building site and stole a water pumping machine.
The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the accused persons confessed to have stolen the water pumping machine.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN)
