The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said 174 armed robbers were arrested in the territory in the last six months.
Commissioner of Police in the territory, Femi Ogunbayode, who disclosed this during a high-powered Security Council meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Bala Muhammed, said the arrests were made between April and September 2013.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, Muhammad Sule, the police also said 604 rounds of live ammunition were recovered during the period.
“The number of arms recovered includes 27 locally-made pistols, three AK-47 riffles, one Lar-Riffle, 11 Wooden/Toy Guns and one JoeJeff Pump Action Gun,” it said.
In the same vein, a total of 61 stolen vehicles were recovered while 32 armed robbery cases had been charged to court, Ogunbayode said.
He said during the period, 10 criminal hideouts discovered 940 suspects arrested and during periodic raid and 283 of them prosecuted.
The police commissioner therefore, warmed members of the public to be more vigilant as we enter the ‘ember’ month. “Members of the public are enjoined to be vigilant at all times particularly as we enter the ember months and report suspicious activities to the law enforcement agents,” he said.
