The 13th CAF Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop being organised by the Confederation of African (CAF) Safety and Security Department headed by Dr. Christian Emeruwa has ended in Kampala, the Ugandan capital.
The three-day workshop hosted at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala came to an end on Thursday with the award of certificates to 40 successful participants comprising of Safety and Security Officers from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Clubs,
Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA) Safety and Security Committee, Uganda Police, Airport Security and International Match Organisation Committee.
Speaking on the successful workshop in Uganda which came just in time to train Safety and Security Officers who will be deployed during 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which Uganda will co-host, Emeruwa said he is quite certified with the programme moreso the response of the participants.
Said he: “I am quite certified with what I saw. We are making progress in Africa and we intend to continue to make our stadia across Africa safe for players, fans and stakeholders.
We thank our friends and brothers in Uganda for their warm hospitality”.
Also speaking on the workshop, Acting Inspector-General of Police (AIGP), Frank Mwesigwa who held a closed door meeting with CAF Safety and Security
officials said the workshop could not have come at a better time.
He therefore assured them of the organisational capabilities and the level of service experience from the Safety and Security view in managing international football events.
At last count, no fewer than 520 people have been trained through the programme across 13 countries in Africa with each nation training 40 participants each. Nigeria is yet to host the workshop.
