The Federal government allocated additional N1 billion to 13 Federal government hospitals in the 2023 Budget to upgrade their facilities, Minister of State for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba has disclosed.
Speaking while on inspecting facilities at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) Irrua, in Edo on Wednesday, the Minister said the 13 hospitals out of 52 others judiciously used the money allocated to them.
In 2021 N49 billion intervention fund was released to 52 federal health institutions with each getting N950 million to upgrade their infrastructure and improve resilience in the sector.
Agba said, “About 13 hospitals, of course. We have two in Edo, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and this hospital.
“13 of you did very well. So we gave those 13 of the hospital additional N1billion,” Agba said.
The minister, however, commended the management of ISTH on the utilisation of the fund, adding that only the 13 institutions that had judiciously used the funds would benefit from the additional N1billion.
“I am very satisfied with ISTH for the upgrade of their health facilities and I actually brought you people here to showcase what the Federal Government of Nigeria is doing under the headship of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“But, you have seen the facilities at the hospital, the Intensive Care Unit and you have seen what we have here.
“We are doing this in the 52 hospitals across the country, and they are world class and those providing the services also have world class experience,” the minister added.
