The Kano State Government is to spend N35billion for the provision of potable water in the state.
Hajiya Aisha Ja’afar, the State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, disclosed this at a budget break down on Monday in Kano.
According to her, the budget will ensure the provision of water supply to the rural and urban areas, as well as energy and industrial development.
Ja’afar said over N800 million would be used for the purchase of water treatment chemicals and N9.2 billion for integrated water resources development.
According to Ja’afar, the ministry will also spend N250 million for the rehabilitation and maintenance of Dams and another N500 million for small town water supply scheme.
The commissioner added that N450 million was approved for the construction of two million litres of water reservoir, one each at Bompai, Tamburawa and Mariri and N300 million for Hydro power station.
According to her, N589 million will be spent on construction of hand pump boreholes, mechanised boreholes and N1 billion for new 90 MLD water treatment plant at Wudil Local Government Area.
She said that N15.3 billion was budgeted for health care delivery and N21 billion for the execution of project in education sub-sectors for 2018 fiscal year.
“N40 billion is allocated for Ministry of Works and Housing for the execution of various project in the state and N3.2billion is earmarked for various project in Ministry of Environment,” she said.
