Zamfara has emerged the number one performing state in northern Nigeria and second position in the whole country in the National Examination Council (NECO)’s entrance examination for gifted students.
This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Dauda Lawal on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Idris.
“The NECO had recently released the result of the 2024 entrance examination for gifted students for admission into the Federal Government Academy, Suleja with Zamfara emerged as first and second positions in northern Nigeria and Nigerian as a whole,” he said.
Idris attributed the success to the declaration of state of emergency in the education sector last year by Lawal.
He said that Zamfara secured the highest number of slots to emerge the best state in the entire northern states.
According to Idris, throughout the country, Zamfara came second with 30 talented students, while Anambra secured the first position with 35 students.
“For the first time, Zamfara is excelling on the national stage, marking a significant shift from its usual place at the bottom regarding performance hierarchy.
“The students from Zamfara performed exceptionally well in the exams, obtaining more slots than any other state in the North.
“Out of the 30 qualified students from Zamfara, 21 are girls, and 9 are boys, indicating a growing emphasis on girl-child education in the state.
“The Zamfara Government will continue to make greater efforts to ensure the full implementation of the administration’s educational policies, which will lead to more successes for the state,” headded. (NAN).
