In its bid to reconcile the warring faction in Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the national leadership of the ruling party has directed the state chairman, Makanjuola Ogundipe to without further delay denounce the purported suspension placed on a former governor of the state, Ayo Fayose.
The national leadership at a meeting with all state chairmen on Thursday in Abuja contended that Ekiti chairman has no power to suspend any of the aspirants in next year’s gubernatorial election in the state.
Consequently, it directed that the former governor be reinstated forthwith and a statement issued to that effect.
Fayose, it will be recalled was recently suspended for allegedly masterminding the violence that occurred at the state secretariat of the party in Ado-Ekiti. The former governor however denied the allegation.
The Bamanaga Tukur-led national leadership also frowned at the consensus arrangement being bandied around in Ekiti ahead of 2014 gubernatorial election, insisting that all the aspirants must be allowed to test their popularity at the primaries.
Tukur, however agreed that aspirants who wish to step down for one another could do so. No fewer than 16 aspirants are currently jostling for the governorship ticket on the platform of the PDP.
