Baring any last minute twist of faith Nigeria’s Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will soon be announced as the new Director- General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Agency reports obtained by Prompt News Wednesday afternoon indicates that Okonjo-Iweala who is Nigeria’s nominee for the exalted office of WTO D-G has emerged winner of the highly competitive race.
The report indicated that Okonjo-Iweala was chosen as the final candidate for the much-coveted position.
Before the final vote, the former Nigerian Minister of Finance had secured the support of 104 of the 164 member countries and was set to defeat the South Korea’s Trade Minister at the final stage of the race.
Okonjo-Iweala has broken many records, including becoming the first African to occupy a top post in both the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She will also become the first African to occupy that office at WTO.
