A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s genitals after discovering his intention to marry another woman.
The defendant, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing a two-count charge of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27, 2026, at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecutor, the Badawa Police Division received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel at about 12:50 p.m. that the defendant had allegedly attacked her boyfriend, identified as Ashiru Sani, with a sharp knife.
Sani-Buhari alleged that earlier, around 11 a.m., Idris had severed the victim’s manhood after learning that he intended to marry another woman.
The injured man was reportedly rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano for medical attention.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Following the proceedings, Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case.
