Super Eagles interim head coach Austine Eguavoen reckoned his side must be at their best to stop Tunisia in their second round fixture at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Eagles finished top of Group D having won all three group games, while Tunisia barely reached the Round of 16 from Group F as one of the third best losers.
Eguavoen stated that the Carthage Eagles are a fast and technical team and warned his players not to underate the North Africans.
“Tunisia are a good team, very fast, very good technically, they’re fast as well, a typical North African team, so we have to counter them,” Eguavoen told NFF TV.
“They have had their ups and downs – first game (vs Mali) was dramatic, lost two penalties in open play and lost narrowly to Gambia towards the end of the game.
“But the knockout stage is a different ball game, if you don’t get it, you’re off!”
Eguavoen assured his team will continue to work with the same determination that has now installed the Super Eagles as one of the contenders to win the AFCON.
“We will continue to work hard as we have always done, the same approach, the same determination,” he vowed.
“Tactics might differ a little bit.
“We’re ready.”
The encounter will take place on Sunday at the Roumde Adjia, Garoua.
