Another USD23 million Abacha loot may soon be returned to the country as Nigeria and the United States government have reached an agreement on it.
On Tuesday, the agreement signing ceremony was held in Abuja.
Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, signed on behalf of the Nigerian government.
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard signed on the behalf of the U.S government.
Malami said the fund when returned will be invested in three ongoing projects by the Federal Government, including the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna road and the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Prompt News Online reports that over $700 million being proceeds of funds diverted by the regime of Nigeria’s late Head of State, General Sani Abacha have been returned to the country from Switerland.
