Uranta: Nigeria lost an important pillar in struggle for unity – Tanko Yakasai

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, an elder stateman and founding member of  Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has described late Mr Tony Uranta, as a pillar in the struggle for the nation’s unity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls  that Uranta, 67, a prominent civil rights activist and Niger Delta chieftain, passed on Wednesday afternoon at the of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Yakasai, also a human rights activist and member of the Justice and Equity for Peace and Unity Initiative (JEPUN) where Uranta served as Executive Secretary, said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that Nigeria had lost a pillar.

The northern leader expressed condolences to all associates in the JEPUIN family.

“My condolences  over the untimely death of our executive secretary, compatriot and brother,  Comrade Tony Uranta.

“By this unfortunate event, Nigeria has lost an important pillar in the struggle for unity and progress of our beloved country.

“Tony was a rare breed dedicated his entire life to the service and progress of our country Nigeria.

“May God the Almighty , grant his spouse and the entire family, his political associates and the people of Nigeria,  courage and fortitude to bear this great loss and may he enjoy eternal peace and tranquility in his abode.”

NAN reports that Uranta,  was a member of the ’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta; Executive Secretary, Pan-Niger Delta Forum, Executive Secretary, United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS), Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG) among others.
