The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Friday received more Certified Election Results in evidence as presented by the camp of Labour Party and its Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in what appeared as another outstanding run, for their legal team.
Delegated by LP and Obi’s Team leader, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, Peter Afuba, SAN led the continued presentation of certified results evidence, consisting of Form EC8As.
Supplementary Results for Six Local Government Areas in Rivers state and one Local Government Srea in Niger State, omitted from Thursday’s session, were submitted, while fresh results from six other states, namely Adamawa (21 LGAs) , Bayelsa (8), Oyo (31) Edo(18) , Lagos( 20), Akwa Ibom (32) were presented.
Despite the opposition of the Counsels to Bola Tinubu, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the presentation of these results, the result sheets were admitted in evidence by the Tribunal.
Interestingly, the high point of Friday’s sitting was the persistent attack by INEC lawyers on the credibility of INEC certified forms EC8A tendered by Peter Obi and Labour Party.
At the end of the presentation, the senior lawyer (Dr. Uzoukwu) told the court that his team was ready to continue evidence presentation on Saturday, but Yusuf Alli, SAN for Tinubu/APC, pleaded fervently for an adjournment till Monday, which was the same position held by the INEC Counsel.
However, presiding judge, Justice Simon Tsammani, brokered a compromise, and an adjournment to 2 p.m on Monday was agreed by all parties as the Obi’s camp were visibly in high spirits departing the tribunal venue.
