A 35-year-old trader, Bosede Falodun, was arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting environmental officers in Ekiti State.
The accused, who does not have a fixed address, faces charges of assault, unlawful damage, and breach of peace.
According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident occurred at Bisi Market in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday at around 11:00 a.m.
The prosecutor claims that Falodun, a seller of cow skin (commonly known as Ponmo), physically assaulted three officers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources while they were performing their official duties.
The court was informed that during the altercation, Falodun allegedly damaged the service uniform of one officer, Fatomoye Abiodun, valued at N6,000.
She is also accused of engaging in actions that could lead to a breach of public peace.
The prosecutor further stated that Falodun had displayed her goods along the roadside and when instructed by the officers to pack them up, she became aggressive and assaulted them.
These actions, according to the prosecutor, contravene sections 354 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Falodun pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her counsel, Joy Raphael, requested bail, assuring the court that she would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted her bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in a like amount.
The case was adjourned to April 17, 2025, for hearing.
