The heart is one machine that works with your awareness. Any disease of the blood affects the heart and when the heart is diseased the entire body is in serious trouble. The truth is: what you eat goes into your blood stream while your thought affects your heart. Whenever your heart fails, you then return to your Lord not minding how many plugs attached to the departing soul. From Him you have come to Him you shall return. Your wishes do not count anymore!
As compact as the heart is, it houses Faith, it also accommodate Beliefs.
The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) was reported to have said: “There is a morsel of flesh in your body, if it is good, the entire body is good, but, if it is rotten the entire body is rotten, that flesh is your heart”. Sadaqa Rasul.
What is mandatory for a Muslim or would be Muslim to belief?
It is mandatory for a Muslim to belief in the unseen
Let me attempt to list out some of the things you cannot see that will enhance your belief – That is the meaning of Faith. You belief, even if you lack the immediate proof, like Air (Oxygen) that you breath, nobody ever sees it, yet it is real.
Even though you disbelief, your disbelief will still not affect the truth.
Purifying The Heart:-
In the rejuvenation of the barbaric Arabs, the first step taking by the Messenger (s.a.w) was to educate them about Allah(s.w.t) and for them to accept the fact that he, Muhammad (s.a.w) is a messenger of Allah (s.w.t).
The message of the Glorious Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) was an in-road to the cleansing of the dark hearts of the Arabs. Islam, through the practical teaching of Muhammad (p.b.u.h) cleanse the hearts of the Arabs, bringing them from less than animal disposition to the glitz and limelight of Education and Civilization.
The heart must belief in these:
Paradise and Hell : belief in the existence of Paradise or the existence of hell will moderate or regulate your thoughts, disposition and actions. Disbelief in it also affects your disposition
Angels and The Prophets: Angels are pure creation of Light, they have no capacity to offend Allah, they act as commanded by the Creator. The Angels has a Chair, the Ruhul Kudus, Arch Angel Jubril or Gabriel or Holly Spirit or Holy Ghost depending on your English usage. The Angel Jubril(a.s) is the one Allah(s.w.t) usually sent to all His Messenger to deliverer revelation.
The Prophets, counting from Adam, Noah, Ibrahim, Musa, Eesa, up to Muhammad(Peace and blessing of Allah be upon them). The Angels are the medium of communication from Allah to mankind. With the exception of Prophet Musa(a.s) that spoke directly with Allah(s.w.t), all the other Messengers have the benefit of the Holy Spirit as intermediary. Even though you do not see the Angels, it is an article of Faith to belief in their existence.
Life after Death: This life you already know, you are alive and living; that you are not dead yet does not mean you will not die someday. After death, there is resurrection, accountability and then Judgment!
Resurrection / Judgment: Imagine a world where everything ends here, then there will be no need to ask people to be patient. It will then be animal kingdom where the big brute prey on the smaller animal. There certainly going to be resurrection and then a Judgment Day.
Allah and The Messenger: Nobody have seen Allah, no one will see Him until the day of Judgment, and, that is a privilege reserved for the people of Paradise.
As for the Prophets from Allah, we heard they came, some saw them but denied them, some misrepresent the Messengers etc. as for Muslim or a would be Muslims, it is incumbent on you to belief in them and obeying the Commandment. “Your God my God is One God”.
Completeness of Faith is to belief in the unseen, remember? Believing in the Messenger-ship of Muhammad presupposes you belief in the previous Prophets and Messengers of Allah.
Do not forget that we are discussing the disease of the heart. It is because the heart is sick (diseased) that makes Someone to cheat, kill, kidnap or another person. A heart not diseased will not stash away wealth that he and his generation will not finish spending, yet he will be called upon to account for it. A diseased heart rationalizes gambling, lottery, and other vices. A heart not diseased will not vandalize petroleum pipelines and justifying it, it takes only a sick heart to rig elections. It takes a sick(er) heart not to want to repent from evils.
The heart houses disbelief, hypocrisy, mischief, greed, and other vices that corrupts the body. Therefore, a sick heart in a body is like an intoxicated driver behind the steering wheel!
To the unbelievers, non-believers or mis-believers, the heart is the home for doubt, denial, and hypocrisy. What has the Glorious Qur’an to advice today in other to call your attention to the diseased heart?
The Nature of Unbelief:
2:6. “Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad p.b.u.h) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe”.
In Islam, unnecessary argument is not welcomed. The Qur’an encourages you to dialogue with a proviso, “argue with them, with wisdom and a beautiful argument”!
The Messenger of Allah(p.b.u.h) also said: “Anyone that has no sense of shame, should be left alone to behave as he likes”. When he ends in disgrace, he will realize his folly.
Consequence for Unbelief:
2:7. “Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment”.
Disbelief has its consequence
The first crime is a dot stain in the heart
Like black ink dropped in cotton wool, it spreads
The second crime create bigger patch on the cotton wool
This goes on till the criminal has no conscience again as the black ink spreads all over
At that level, you become a hardened criminal
When the heart is hardened, admonition penetrates not.
The resultant effect of a diseased heart, entrenched in criminality as well as injustice is what you are experiencing all over the world. The society of anything-goes!
Wolves in Sheep Clothing:
2:8. “And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: “We believe in Allah and the Last Day” while in fact they believe not”.
There are also those that pretend to be believers
Some even dress like a Muslims
Who is Fooling Whom:
2:9. “They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not”!
2:10. “In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies”.
2:11. “And when it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peacemakers.”
2:12. “Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive it not”
A Tale of a pure heart:
Hassan Albadri passed by a group of young men having their meal. They did not recognize him as the teacher and a famous scholar.
He was invited to partake in the meal of bread and some sauce,
he partake in the meal.
Later in the day, when it was time for the next meal, he invited the students for dinner,
he fed them full dinner in his house.
When his students asked him why he gave them a feast when they only gave him some bread?
Listen to his response: “You people had a favor over me. All that you had was some bread, yet you shared it with me. It is only right that I share what I have with you people”.
This shows that:
The common folks too could and should be generous.
The humility of Hassan (the lecturer) siting and eating with the common folks
The virtue of returning kindness with better kindness
The humility of not presuming you are better, if you have done more
The one that begins with kindness always have an upper hand in the estimation of Islam, because he initiated it in the first instant.
Your Creator and Your Heart: Book , Number 6471:
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated : “I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.
The Essence of Life is to be wry of the diseased heart. Unbelief, disbelief, or misbelief is a chronic disease on the heart. It has no cure other than repentance. The Qur’an is a cure and a medicine to a sincere believer. Listening to good admonition and regularly being generous cure the diseases of the hearts.
