No member of Nigeria’s Super Eagles will play in the Europe’s most prestigious UEFA Champions Leaque knock out stage which starts in February 2020 following their clubs’ inability to qualify for the next round of the competition.
As the group stage was concluded Wednesday night, none of the Super Eagles players’ teams made it out of their groups with only the duo of Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis and David Chidozie Okereke’s Club Brugge of Belgium settling for the Europa League football.
Super Eagles New Kid on the block, Victor Osimhen and his Lille Metropole of France finished bottom of Group H where Valencia and Chelsea FC picked the two available tickets for the knock out stage while Brian Oladapo Idowu’s Lokomotive Moscow and Peter Olayinka’s Slavia Praque were also bottom of their groups respectively.
Also, Super Eagles forwards, Paul Ebere Onuachu and Stephen Odey’s Genk FC of Belgium finished last in Group E where Liverpool and Napoli advanced.
Meanwhile, the draw for the last 16 teams of the 2019/2020 Champions League will take place on Monday December 16 at 12:00 noon at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland with a number of conditions.
Teams who have already played together in the group stages cannot be drawn together, nor can teams from the same country be pitched togather at this stage.
Secondly, teams that finished top of their group (placed in Pot A) will meet second placed qualifiers (Pot B).
This means Real Madrid could meet Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Liverpool or Leipzig, while Atlético Madrid, who also finished second, could meet PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool or Leipzig.
Table-toppers Barcelona could face Napoli, Tottenham, Chelsea, Lyon or Atalanta, while Valencia, who also finished first, have similar possible opponents: Napoli, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and Atalanta
Champions League Round of 16 will be played on the following dates: First leg; February 18/19 and 25 and 26. Second leg; March 10/11and 17/18.ReplyForward
