Sokoto state government said it has distributed 172 transformers of various capacities to different communities across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Similarly, the government said it plans to install a further 100 transformers to complement existing ones and enhance access to electricity supply in remote locations before the end of 2017.
The state commissioner for Rural Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, stated this while briefing reporters in Sokoto.
He said the 172 transformers were supplied at the cost of N623 million, while a further N103 million was spent on supply and installation of electrical equipment in different parts of the state.
“The categories distributed include 500 kva, 300 kva and 200 kva. Some local government areas got five while others got three depending on request.
“Our plan is to enhance access to electricity in many areas that hitherto had no power supply at all. The benefits of such endeavour cannot be overemphasised,” he added.
The commissioner said his ministry is also liaising with the Federal Government to ensure more communities are connected to electricity supply.
