By Olusegun Lawrence Nigeria’s Senate on Tuesday declared support for removal of fuel subsidy announced recently by the federal government.
The government had last week announced deregulation of the downstream of the nation’s oil sector, allowing marketers or any interested entity to source dollars from secondary sources to import fuel but sell at a pump price not more than N145 per litre.
The Senate announced its decision to support subsidy removal after a closed door session.
However, the Upper Chamber enjoined the federal government to start implementing palliatives measures as contained in the 2016 budget to cushion the negative effects on the masses.
