A 28-year-old sales woman, Balikis Lawal, was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court with stealing her employer’s N4.1 million.
Lawal, who resides at 3, Olaogun St., Lawanson, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, SP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 18, in a Lagos Island market.
“The complainant, Mrs Oluwakemi Olatunji, kept N4.1 million sales proceeds inside her shop drawer and left the defendant alone in the shop.
“On her return, the money disappeared from the drawer, and the defendant could not account for it.
“The case was reported at a police station, and the defendant was arrested,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Layinka adjourned the case until Dec. 2, for mention.
