The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Mr. Akin Rotimi, has voiced concern over the growing negative influence of social media on Nigerian families.
Speaking in Ikole-Ekiti during the second edition of his Easter Family Life Thanksgiving Service, Rotimi described the platform as a breeding ground for foreign ideologies, questionable cultures, and immorality.
Rotimi, who represents the Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency, said social media has become a channel where vices are celebrated and virtuous conduct is ridiculed.
He warned that the continued exposure to such content, especially among the youth, threatens the moral foundation of society.
During the event themed “Rebuilding Families, Renewing Nigeria:
The Role of the Church,” he called on the Church to play a greater role in guiding families and restoring values.
According to him, the normalization of acts that contradict God’s teachings reflects not only a cultural decline but a spiritual crisis.
He emphasized that national prosperity is rooted in strong family structures built on love, discipline, godliness, and mutual respect. Rotimi urged collective efforts to revive these values through faith-based principles.
“This is more than a gathering for praise—it is a declaration of faith,” he said.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, and that righteousness begins at home.
Sadly, the institution of marriage and family life is now under attack by dangerous ideologies.
We must return to God’s original design, with the Church serving as a moral compass.”
