The House of Representatives has directed security agencies in the country to make concerted efforts to unravel the veracity of the allegations made against Senator Ike Ekeramadu and his wife in the United Kingdom.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Nwanneka are currently facing trial in the United Kingdom over allegations bothering on organ harvesting.
House Speaker, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila during his opening remarks at plenary also stressed the need for the Nigerian Embassy in the UK to accord Senator Ekweremadu all the necessary diplomatic services.
The speaker further disclosed that he has contacted the Nigerian Embassy in the UK as well as the UK Embassy in Nigeria, stressing that the matter must fully be investigated to ensure that no one suffered innocently.
Thereafter, a motion of Urgent National Important was moved by Honourable Abdulkardri Abdullahi.
Honourable Abdullahi while moving the motion stated the urgent need for the government to wade into the ordeal of Senator Ekweremadu, stressing that the matter should not be subjected to the court of public opinion and media trials.
He disclosed several positions and privileges held by Senator Ekweremadu, even as he is currently representing his constituents in the chamber of the Senate.
He further disclosed that shortly after the arrest and detention of Senator Ekweremadu and his wife by the Metropolitan Police in UK, several facts have emerged from the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Identity Management Commission, and the Nigerian Custom Service which might not have been made available to the UK police as at the time of the arrest.
He also called on all the security agencies in the country to launch a thorough investigation as to what might have led to the allegation against Senator Ekweremadu and his wife.
Members who spoke on the matter described Senator Ekweremadu as a straight forward man as well as astute lawyer who served his country and his immediate constituency wholeheartedly.
Members agreed that the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign affairs as well as the Nigerian Embassy in the United Kingdom should be mandated to investigate the allegation leveled against Senator Ekweremadu, his wife and the children.
