The House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions has commended the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Meta, Lagos State, on appropriate utilisation of its budget.
Dr Martins Oke, the Deputy Chairman of the committee, gave the commendation during an inspection of facilities at the hospital in Lagos on Monday.
Oke said: “We are here for an oversight visit to see what has happen to the budget allocated to the hospital.
“We are impressed with what we have seen so far. The Medical Director is somebody that has been doing very well and he is one of the best in the country.
“We, however, made observation on some of the things we want them to correct before their next budget defence.”
On the ongoing strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Oke, who is representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, said efforts were on to ensure amicable resolution of the issue.
“We are doing everything possible for the residents doctors to go back to work for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“I am a medical doctor as well and I understand what it takes.
“We all know that health is a major and critical issue and we must have a way to resolve our differences to the betterment of the country,” he said.
He added that the legislative arm would continue to ensure an increased budgetary allocation to the health sector.
Welcoming the committee, Dr Adedamola Dada, the Medical Director of the hospital, said the hospital would continue to use its allocation judiciously to enhance it’s services to patients.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the facilities visited include, the new Intensive Care Unit, Molecular Laboratory, Isolation Centre, Blood Bank, among others. (NAN)
