Minister of State for Education, Dr Sununu has emphasized the importance of Education in eradicating poverty and ensuring access to quality Education for all Nigerians, irrespective of age, gender, and geopolitical location.
He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open a Stakeholders Meeting on Achieving Youth and Adult Literacy, a critical pillar 4 of the Roadmap for the Nigeria Education Sector (2024-2027).
The meeting was organized by the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC). He commended the NMEC for championing the implementation of the roadmap in fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to Education.
The Minister stressed the need for a holistic approach to improving the quality of knowledge and certificates given to adults and non-formal Schools, incorporating skills acquisition and awareness campaigns to educate Parents on the importance of Education.
The Executive Secretary of NMEC, Prof. Simon Ibor Akpama, welcomed Stakeholders and emphasized the critical role of literacy in building a sustainable future. He then stressed the need for collective action to address Youth and Adult illiteracy, which is a significant challenge in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Alternative Education, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha, commended the President’s political will to change the literacy narrative and expressed the National Assembly’s commitment to achieving an educated society. READ ALSO:

According to a statement by Mrs Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press & PR in the Ministry of Education, the meeting aims to bring together Stakeholders to discuss strategies and innovative approaches to enhance literacy rates in Nigeria.
The roadmap provides a framework for tackling literacy challenges. The collaboration and dedication from all Stakeholders from the thirty six States and Federal Capital Territory will go along way improving the level of literacy in Nigeria.
