The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Chief Love Shimite, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export.
Shimite reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday, with initial reports citing a brief illness.
However, police are now probing the circumstances surrounding her death.
Delta Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, stating that Shimite was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was taken.
He revealed that her husband initially reported the death and expressed fears for his safety, claiming he had received threats from her family.
“The husband was taken into protective custody—not arrested—for his own safety,” Edafe said.
The case took a new turn after Shimite’s family formally lodged a complaint, alleging possible foul play and expressing suspicion toward the husband.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation,” Edafe noted.
“Only an autopsy can determine the exact cause of death.”
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
