Apparently disturbed by the escalating security challenges in the South East especially Imo State, two top officials of the lead opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have said the situation may not be unconnected with the resentment of the citizens due to the injustice done to them.
Speaking on Channels Television breakfast programme Sunrise Daily on Friday, the duo of Sani Umar, former Spokesman, PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and Ayo Fadaka, ex-President South West Leader, posited that Imo state used to be a very peaceful place until the political Tsunami of some sort which swept away the Governor the people voted for in the 2019 Governorship Election.
According to Fadaka; ” the political abracadabra which happened in the Nigerian courts which saw the person whom, by the record of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), came a distant 4th place in the Governorship Election in 2019 did not go down well with the citizens hence there has been unrest in the state”.
Also, Umar blamed the deteriorating situation in Imo state on impunity, arguing that when the citizens feel shortchanged the scheme of things there are inherent bottled up anger against the system.
Said he: “Look at what is happening in Imo state, a once peaceful place for all Nigerians now reeling in insecurity because of impunity. The people of the state believe strongly that they were shortchanged, politically when the person they voted for was removed by the Supreme Court and another person who came 4th in the election installed as their Governor”.
They believe that injustice and impunity breed state of anarchy and unrest with innocent people caught in the cross-fire.
