A man identified simply as Tosin, who travelled from Ondo State to attend an event in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has been found dead after he reportedly went missing from the gathering.
Tosin was said to have left the venue briefly on September 15, 2026, while the event was ongoing, before he was allegedly accosted by suspected cultists in the Egbin area of Ijede.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that the assailants allegedly dispossessed the victim of his gold chains, mobile phones and other belongings before killing him.
His disappearance was initially treated as a missing-person case and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
However, on September 18, a corpse believed to be that of Tosin was found floating in a river in the Agura area, according to the police.
The body was later recovered and deposited at a morgue, while police operatives began efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the case had been taken over by the SCID.
She said, “The case at hand as of September 15, 2026, was that of missing person which was transferred to the SCID but by September 18, 2026, a corpse which was identified to be his was found floating. The case is being investigated at the SCID.”
Following the discovery of the body, police operatives reportedly raided the area on Friday and arrested some suspects in connection with the incident.
The suspects were taken into custody for questioning as detectives continued efforts to establish what led to Tosin’s death and determine the identities and roles of other persons who may have been involved.
