The Oyo State Government on Tuesday, approved N600 million as tractorisation subsidy to support farmers in the state.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said this on Tuesday in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
Olaleye said the gesture would encourage farmers to expand their farming activities by cultivating more, saying that this would enhance food sufficiency in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Seyi Makinde on Feb. 28, announced that his government would subsidise land clearing for farmers across the state with an initial sum of N600 million.
Makinde made the announcement during a meeting held at the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub in Oyo town with some stakeholders in the agriculture sector on ways to address the rising cost of food prices in the state.

He pledged at the meeting that each farmer would pay N15,000 instead of N30,000 for land clearing, while the government would pay the balance.
The approval by the State Executive Council three months after the pledge, has put to rest doubts about the commitment of the state government. (NAN)
