Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, known as Osupa, has decided to withdraw the legal action he had filed against controversial singer Badmus Okikiola, popularly called Portable.
Osupa’s legal representative, Ahmed Opalekunde, confirmed the development to The PUNCH Online on Tuesday, revealing that a formal notice for the withdrawal of the case was submitted to the Upper Area Court 1, High Court in Ilorin.
This came after Portable had been summoned to court on Monday by the Kwara State Police Command following Osupa’s formal complaint against him.
In his complaint, Osupa accused Portable of engaging in criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public unrest, and cyberstalking.
These actions were said to violate several legal provisions, including Sections 392 (criminal defamation), 114 (inciting disturbance), and 397 (criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code. The case also involved breaches of Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, as well as Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Tuesday, Osupa’s lawyer explained that the singer had chosen to withdraw the case after receiving interventions from key figures within the music industry and other prominent individuals. The lawyer confirmed that Osupa had opted for an out-of-court resolution to settle the matter amicably.
The official withdrawal letter included a cautionary note, urging Portable to refrain from making any further derogatory remarks or publications that could harm Osupa’s reputation.
The letter read: “Following the intervention of several industry stakeholders and respected personalities, our client has agreed to withdraw the case in the interest of peace. We respectfully request that the court acknowledges this and advises the defendant to refrain from any future defamatory actions or comments.”
Osupa had accused Portable of using a live stream to attack his character, alleging that the latter falsely claimed Osupa had removed his music from platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. Osupa contended that such statements were damaging to his reputation and had the potential to hurt his earnings.
The petition mentioned that during an Instagram live broadcast on March 19, 2025, Portable made allegations that Osupa was envious and attempting to undermine his career.
In the widely circulated video, Portable was heard saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
Osupa described these comments as damaging and provocative, claiming that they caused public unrest and disrupted his image.
On Monday, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi granted Portable bail set at N1 million, with two sureties: one must be the chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, and the other must own property in the Government Reserved Area within the court’s jurisdiction.
