Osun police arraign man over alleged theft of motorcycle

 The police in Osun, on Monday, arraigned one Alaba Opeyemi, 27, at an Ifetedo Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a motorcycle.

The Prosecutor, Insp. James Obaletan, told the court that the accused committed the crime on Aug. 11 around 10.00 pm at Orita Globe area, Garage-Olode, Ifetedo, in Ife South Local Government Area.

Obaletan said that the accused stole one Jincheng motorcycle, valued at N70,000, property of Oyedeji Sikiru.

He added that the offence contravened sections 383(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Alfred Omotayo, pleaded for his bail in most liberal terms, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi granted Opeyemi bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

Owolawi added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court’s jurisdiction and produce three recent passport photographs.

He adjourned the case till Sept. 18 for hearing.
