Gov., Ademola Adeleke, of Osun, has ordered the immediate disbursement of bursary stipends to students in various tertiary institutions in the state.
This is contained in a in a statement issued by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Governor, in Osogbo on Monday.
He noted that, the government had earlier collated students’ data across tertiary institutions.
He collated the data using the records from student stakeholders.
Adeleke said the bursary award was the beginning of many initiatives his administration had in stock for the student sector.
According to the governor, his recent meetings with the student leadership further deepened the bond between his administration and the student population, assuring that more goodies are in the pipeline.
“Aside from the bursary awards, more policy actions to address the needs of our students are coming.
“I plan an expanded meeting with the student population very soon as a follow-up to the last meeting with the leaders of the various student associations in the state,” he said.
According to him, the bursary award covers about 3,500 regular students and almost 300 law students.
He added that each of the 30 local governments and area offices had at least 100 students on the award list.
The first phase of the award is to reach beneficiaries this week as the state government intensifies efforts to ease the effect of study challenges facing students in various institutions. (NAN).
