The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday constituted 33 standing committees to fast-track its legislative works.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, while inaugurating the committees, explained that constituting the committees was to enhance the assembly’s legislative functions.
Oladiji explained that the move was in line with Section 103 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended.
He charged the committees to carry out oversight functions in government ministries, departments and agencies.
According to him, MDAs should cooperate with their respective committees while discharging their duties.
The Speaker said that each committee had the constitutional right to summon any MDA in its jurisdiction for the purpose of seamless legislative works.
Some of the committees are: Selection Committee, headed by the Speaker; Allocation and Welfare Committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Abayomi Akinruntan; Rules and Business Committee, headed by the Majority Leader, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi.
Others are: Committee on Government House and Protocols, chaired by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji; Finance and Appropriations, chaired by Ogunmolasuyi; Works Committee, headed by Mr Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju; and Information Committee, chaired by Mr Olatunji Oshati. (NAN)
