Ololade Oladipo of Omu-Aran High School (OHS) who came third at the 5th edition of Skylarks’ Omu-Aran Club’s marathon returned a time of 60 minutes 1 second to emerge the champion of the 6th edition on Wednesday in Omu-Aran in the female category.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Boluwatife Kolawole of Ogbo Grammar School returned a time of 43 minutes, 11 seconds to win the male category.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Sir Jide Dada, said once the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, approved the open the marathon, the Club would only create the Omu-Aran category.
He revealed that the Club has expanded the price money even as the schools with the highest number of participating students were rewarded with N50,000; N30,000 and N20,000, respectively.
The President of Skylarks’ Club of Omu-Aran, Elder James Sangoyomi, explained that they work every year to improve the standard of the marathon.
He revealed that all participating students were rewarded with one gift or the other to encourage them because they are all winners.
The Matron of the club, Dr Mary Atolagbe, thanked members for sustaining the hosting of the marathon in the last six years.
She reassured the club of her commitments and support at all time and urged them to keep the tempo of the marathon high.
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, urged the participating students to take their studies seriously even as he commended the organisers.
The traditional ruler, who reminded the gathering of the importance of exercise, pledged his palace’s support to the Club.
NAN reports that the first, second and third positions in the male and female categories smiled home with N50,000; N30,000 and N20,000, respectively, in scholarship form.
The winner of the female category of the marathon (Oladipo) later told NAN that she prepared adequately for the event knowing fully that the winner and the runners up for the 5th edition had graduated from her school. (NAN)
