The Federal Capital Territory Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is to collaborate with the British Council Media Hub (BCMH) on the training of journalists especially in the area of Presentation and Scrip Writing.
The Chairman of the Council, Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche stated this when a delegation of BCMH led by Mr Emmanuel Ohiomokhare visited the NUJ Complex in Utako, Abuja at the weekend.
Ogbeche who expressed delight at the visit said the proposed training programmes had become necessary because of the lack of intellectual depth among many practicing journalists.
While commending the BCMH delegation for initiating the visit, the NUJ boss noted that the new age journalists were more collaborative than before, even as he emphasised the need for them to register as NUJ members which according to him “is a veritable platform to fight the cause of journalists”.
Earlier, Mr Ohiomokhare had informed that the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the BCMH to NUJ FCT Council “because we had noticed the dynamism in the leadership of the council and this has endeared us back to NUJ”.
He expressed the desire of individual members of BCMH to enlist in the NUJ FCT, adding that “this is because of members seeing noticeable progress in the way journalists are now being treated by the council”.
The team was received by the Chairman of Council, Emmanuel Ogbeche, Vice Chairman, Osadebamwen Patrick and Secretary Ochiaka Ugwu.
